Albus' PGR 3 Tips: Part One

Need more Kudos? Albus, a tester at Microsoft Games Studio, has been thrashing on Project Gotham Racing® 3 and has these insightful tips to share in a multi-part series of articles. Part one begins with a basic tip.

Make Money to Get Cars

The fastest way to get Kudos, progress through the game, and win online is to get cash and buy better cars. How? Drop down to a medal level that you can comfortably beat on the first try. For me, that was Gold. Then, win championships because championships are where the big money is. Each time you win a championship at a higher difficulty level, you’ll get even more cash. Start with an easy setting for you—one that you aren’t trying to maximize Kudos or have to restart. Go to a higher medal level once you’ve bought faster and better cars.

Albus’ Favorite Cars

Now that you have a pile of cash from all those championships, which car should you buy?

B Class
  • Ultima GTR: Fabulous grippy car that you can plat almost every event in. Definitely the best default car to choose to start your Career.
  • Enzo Ferrari: A terrific blend of power and control. Some find it unruly but that’s a term I leave for the Ferrari F50 GT, which I have yet to tame. The Enzo makes a fabulous car for any timed or race events for Platinum. It’s very quick and (relatively) controllable. My second favorite elite car after the RUF Supercar Concept.

A Class
  • RUF Supercar Concept: Awarded when you reach Rank 1 (500,000 Kudos). This is my favorite F50 GT killer. It’s slow out of turns, it’s top speed isn’t anything great, the Panoz has a lot more grip, but this car is a dream to drive. It just goes where you tell it. And if you’re good at knowing where to put it, you’ll beat a lot of F50 GTs. It’s worth the effort to get to Rank 1.
  • Panoz GTR-1 Coupe: Gobs of grip. This thing has downforce you wouldn’t believe. Can hang with any car—as long as there is no bridge on the track. Big downside: It tops out (quickly) at 185 mph. So, if you're on a short/twisty track, this is your car. If it’s a track with a bridge (or Nurburgring) this car will lose. This is the first A class car you should buy.
  • Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR SuperSport: A bit of a tweener car. Very quick, agile, good high end, but still a bit twitchy. Great for Kudos for time events and getting Kudos out of speed-related challenges. Great cockpit car, for those of us who like to immerse ourselves.
  • F50 GT: I mention it here, only because you expect to see it on my list. It’s not on my list. This car is unruly, misbehaves, is a beeyatch to control. It’s a terrific car for those who have the ability to tame it—there will be few.
