Albus' PGR 3 Tips: Part Two
Albus discusses strategies to rack up the Kudos in Street Races, Cone Challenges, and Time vs. Kudos races.
Street Races
In Project Gotham Racing® 3 Street Races, the key is choreography. You need to win to get Platinum medals, but to get to the top of the Leaderboards it’s all about how you win. You want to stay in second place (even third or fourth) so that you can setup the Artificial Intelligence (AI) cars for overtake points, as well as drafting bonuses, to string the longest combos you can. For examples, download clips from the Leaderboards to watch the masters and how they setup the AI cars to string long combos.
My strategy is to use the field during the first lap. Don't jump to the lead (or even to second place) too early. You only get overtake Kudos once (when you pass a car), so you can use those to string a combo on a long straight when draft points dry up. In a four lap race, I'll probably get half my points in the first lap and the other half over the other three laps while in second place. Use the rest of the race to chase down the cars in first and second place. Use the first lap to maximize Draft Kudos benefits.
Cone Challenges
For Cone Challenges, the cars I prefer are the Ultima GTR (my favorite for cones), the Noble M400, and the Maserati Gran Sport. To get Platinum, there’s really only one way: One giant combo—just drive the cones without banking any Kudos and you should have enough Kudos to get platinum. To get uber scores, you have to shimmy between cones to build up Kudos combo bonuses. Choreography will be the subtle difference at the elite end of the Leaderboards.
A secret: The timer for these events doesn’t start until you cross the Start line. You can’t earn Kudos until the timer starts. But, if a running start would help you get an extra trick in, try backing up a little, and then hit the gas.
Time vs. Kudos
This is my favorite of the new PGR 3 event modes. Basically, you have less time than you need to finish a lap but you can pause the timer by gaining Kudos. The trick is to choose the right manuevers to gain premium Kudos to maximize the pausing of the timer. Just about anyone can complete these challenges (even at Platinum level) once they understand the rules.
To get uber scores, you have to realize that you can only pause the timer for one minute. After that, any Kudos you earn won’t stop the timer so you have to find the right track section to pause the timer. What I do is add a shimmy before and after big drift sections and drive fast on the longest straightaway. You want to save the Kudos you earned to stop the timer for twisty sections to get the biggest combos.
